Reminder: St. John’s Annual Rummage Sale Tomorrow Our annual rummage sale will be tomorrow 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 pm. The Day of Pentecost is this Sunday Sunday is the Day of Pentecost which is a High Holy Day. The liturgical color of red represents either martyred saints or the Holy Spirit since He is described in Acts 2 as tongues of fire. Based upon this, there is an old tradition in Anglicanism of wearing red on the Day of Pentecost to celebrate the pouring out of the Holy Spirit upon the Church. So, be sure to wear red on Sunday. Pentecost Fund Offering The Pentecost Fund is an investment fund whose earnings go to support the Office of the Bishop, thus helping to take some of the load off of the annual parish assessments. You will find special envelopes in the bulletin on Sunday you wish to give an offering to this fund.

We are in need of clothes hangers for the annual rummage sale. If you have any that you can donate, please bring them to the parish hall tomorrow.

Eucharist with Holy Unction Tonight at 6:30 p.m. At the Eucharist tonight, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Boniface (Archbishop to Mainz, Missionary to Germany, and Martyr). Each Wednesday evening, we as a Christian community have the opportunity to come together as the Body of Christ to worship and study. So, please consider making the Wednesday evening Eucharist and Adult mid-week study part of your regular weekly schedule. Holy Unction "Is any among you sick? Let him call on the elders (i.e., priests) of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven." This admonishment comes from the Book of James (James 5:14-15) and is the basis for the Sacrament we call Holy Unction. Every Wednesday evening, the Sacrament of Unction is offered at the Eucharist. If you are bearing pain (whether in body, mind, or soul) come to the Wednesday evening Eucharist and receive this sacrament of healing and restoration. Adult Study Tonight at 7:30 p.m. Our study of Christian Eschatology continues tonight. The word Eschatology is derived from two Greek words: Escaton, meaning the end times, and Logos, meaning word, study or research. Eschatology, therefore, is the study of the end times or the Last Things. We live in a time of some very strange and "unorthodox" views and teaching in the area of Christian Eschatology. Topics such as the Second Coming of Christ, death, the human soul, the Communion of Saints, heaven and hell, the Resurrection of the body/the dead, and life everlasting/the life of the world to come are not well understood by the average Christian. Nor have these topics been articulated very well by modern Christian teachers. For us as Anglican Christians, we need to view and understand these topics through the lenses of what the Bible and the Church teaches about them. This is what Dr. David Montoya is doing as he leads this study on this subject of Christian Eschatology. This is week 6 of a 10 week study. Tonight, we will be examining the Olivet Discourse (Matt. 24). Please join us tonight.

Good morning! Please be sure to start bringing your rummage sale items to the church today through Friday. Jessica will be in the office and the church will be open from 9-1 every day. Thursday, there will be yoga until 12pm. If you are available to work we will be organizing on Thursday from 1-6 and again on Friday from 10-6. Ascension Day Eucharist Tonight at 6:30 p.m. We will have a special Eucharist this evening at 6:30 p.m. celebrating this important day in the life of Christ and of His Church. Please make plans to join us tonight. The Feast of the Ascension of our Lord “This day is a triumph for Christ, a festival of victory. He amply deserves this triumph. Leaving His Father’s throne, He humbled Himself to be born of the Virgin, lay in the crude stable of Bethlehem, fled to Egypt from His own people, lived in retirement as a mechanic at Nazareth, traveled to exhaustion throughout the Jewish land, to lead the lost sheep back to the fold. He experienced much misunderstanding and lovelessness at the hands of His brethren. Finally He suffered the physical and mental anguish of the Passion from Gethsemane to Golgotha. Why all this? Because He loves us. For what purpose? To purchase our freedom from the power of the devil and to lead us home into the heavenly fatherland. To this work He devoted all His love, His heart’s blood, everything. This work is now completed. Today He may look back joyfully upon His finished life’s work. He returns to heaven as Victor, appears before the Father as the Son, and gives account of His completed work. We may say that this day is the festival of the human Christ’s Ascension to the throne and of His crowning as the King of heaven and earth. This day is a feast of gladness also for us. Our Brother’s glorification by His Ascension is also the elevation of our human nature, our glorification. Our human nature participates in the highest divine honor. Christ entered heaven in His human body, He sits on God’s throne in His human nature, and our Brother will occupy this throne to all eternity. This is an overwhelming distinction for us. One of us, our Head, sits upon the throne of God, and thereby we, the members of His mystical body, are deified. The Proper Preface declares: “That He might make us partakers of His divine nature.” A divine nobility is conferred upon us. But there is also a strong imperative, a demand: the Sursum Corda. Sin does not ascend to heaven with Christ but is a bond that attaches to earth. We must break this bond of sin. Several have asked about arrangements for dad (Bob Beadel): Visitation: Tuesday 5-7 pm, Blaylock Funeral Home on Indian Creek Service: Wednesday, 10:00 am, Coggin Avenue Baptist Church Interment: Eastlawn Memorial Cemetery in Early Mom asks that donations be made to The Ark Domestic Violence Shelter in Brownwood on lieu of flowers. It is a charity that is very close to mom and dad’s hearts. Thank you again for the AWESOME outpouring of love and support. ❤️

The Men of St. John's Will Meet Tomorrow The Men of St. John's will have their monthly meeting on tomorrow morning. We will begin as usual with Morning Prayer at 8:45 a.m. followed by breakfast and a time of study and discussion. All the men of St. John's are invited and encouraged to attend. Guests are always welcomed! Fourth Sunday Brunch this Sunday This Sunday we are having our first monthly "Fourth Sunday Brunch" from 9:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. in place of the Adult Education Class. The purpose of this new event is to provide a time for Christian fellowship amongst those who regularly attend the 8:00 a.m. Eucharist, and those who regularly attend the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the parish all for people to sign up to bring food on the fourth Sundays.

Dad’s (Bob Beadel) earthly journey ended peacefully just after 5:00 this morning as he slept with mom (Ann Hargrove Beadel) at his side and rest of his family nearby. His eternal life is just beginning......

This is from Bob and Ann Beadel's son Allen: Sometimes, one of the hardest parts of our faith is learning to trust God...to accept HIS will instead of our own. Mom asked that I post the following update: Dad (Bob) was transferred to Baylor Hospital in Dallas Sunday in hopes that they would be able to perform a procedure to remove the infected pacemaker lead from his heart. Yesterday the doctors there determined that he was too ill to survive the surgery (an open heart procedure) and that there was no other viable option. After they presented this information to us, mom (Ann) made the decision to bring him home to the ranch that he adores and where they have spent the last 50 or so years. Brandon coordinated from Dallas and I worked it from this end to have him flown from Baylor to the driveway of the new home that he and mom share here at the ranch. He is being overseen by home hospice and is resting comfortably, his bed right beside mom’s. Roquel and I are here now. Brandon and Ashlyn stayed with mom until the helicopter was in the air and are on their way here. (Mom got to ride in the helicopter with him so they are bringing her car back to Brownwood.) We are devastated by this sudden turn of events but we are comforted by knowing that he will be joining his true Father soon, and will keep a place for the rest of us. A friend sent this scripture in a group text yesterday and we have rested on it today: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. These are difficult times for all of us, but God is holding us and we feel His comfort. Please continue to pray for our family. We love each and every one of you and covet every word of every prayer. I’ll post an update when it’s appropriate. If you live in or around Brownwood and see Buddy Preston, please give him a hug and tell him thank you for helping make the “home delivery” happen.

Christian Formation/Catechism Class Meets Tonight Traditionally, catechism is meant for persons seeking Confirmation by the Bishop; however, Catechism is useful for all Christians no matter the age, as the point of catechesis is to train Christians in the fundamentals of the Faith. Similarly, even the best athletes regularly train in the fundamentals of their own sport. Whether it's your first time or tenth time in Catechism classes, you may well benefit from attending. These fundamentals of the Faith are divided into 4 main categories: (1) Understanding the Faith (Information); (2) Believing the Faith (Formation); (3) Practicing the Faith (Transformation); (4) Living the Faith (Activation). Through our study, we will discuss who God is, His plan and purpose for humanity, salvation, the Church, Holy Scripture, the Sacraments, Prayer and everything else that a well-informed and grounded Christian ought to know. There are two opportunities for parishioners to attend this course. We will have a Monday evening session from 6:00-8:30 p.m. and a Friday daytime session from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Each class will be divided into two sessions approximately an hour each. Between each session, there is a simple lunch/dinner (those participating in these classes should bring their own brown bag meal). Class #13 is this evening. If you are new to St. John’s and wish to learn more about the parish and/or Anglicanism, or you are an “old timer” and want a refresher course, please join us for these important classes. These classes are also required for anyone desiring to be Confirmed or Received into the Anglican Church. This evening, we will conclude our examination of the Nicene Creed looking particularly at what the Creed teaches us about the Communion of Saints, Remission/Forgiveness of Sins, the Resurrection of the Dead/Body, and the Life of the World to Come/Life Everlasting . All are welcomed to join us to attend any part of any class!

Update on Bob Beadel: Tests confirmed that Bob has endocarditis (heart infection) and also the infection around the catheter and the pic line. The paperwork is ready to transfer Bob to Baylor in Dallas. The ambulance should be there about 4:30. Please continue prayers for healing and safe travel. Love and blessings….Kathy
